And then there was the ride home...

So yes, yesterday was the first time I rode to and from work. The Upside: I made it home in under 30 minutes. The Downside: I haven't been able to sleep for the last three days, and being tired and sleepy was horrible. I just fall asleep and wake up with in thirty minutes. Needless to say I'm EXHAUSTED.

Moving on, the ride home wasn't bad. Encountered a couple of people that might have been homeless but they left me alone. I took a lot of short water breaks, and I wizened up. Because I haven't had a chance to buy a camel pack and my water bottles aren't insulated I took a different route. I filled my regular water bottle about two-thirds of the way and froze it. Then when I was about to leave I went ahead and filled the rest with cold water. On the way home, the water stayed cold the entire way.

The temperature when I left work was 106, so given that I took a different route with more shade. I think I did a decent job. I am now thinking of doing this about three time a week (when I have to be here at 8:30) and driving the other days. Also, I am seriously considering changing my diet. I have been told that eating a high protein, low carb diet will help with the lack of energy....

Finally!!!!

I did it! I rode to work this morning! It took approximately 25 minutes because there was a lot more traffic than I had anticipated. I left my house at about 7:35am and got to work at about 7:57am. I showered and dressed for work and was even a few minutes early. (My start time most days a week is 8:30am.) I was slightly off balance for the first hour I was here, I even managed to spill a cup of coffee, but I sat down and ate a ham and cheese croissant and drank a big glass of orange juice, and now I am feeling much better. I think I will go to the grocery store tonight and stock the fridge here at work with some food, since I can't really live on hot pockets alone. I'm ready for a nap...

Any suggestions on energy boosters would be appreciated!

This Week

I haven't ridden yet this week. There really isn't an excuse other than its really hot and I'm lazy. CG gave me a talking to yesterday, which I'm taking into serious consideration. Other than that not too much has been going on.

I would, however, like to take a moment and congratulate T, who has taken the idea of riding to work and run with it. I got to work this morning and  saw that T had ridden her bike to work. Her distance is about 7 miles each way, so congrats! I will admit that part of what holds me back about riding to work is the limited mobility once you get there. You can't go out to lunch, you can't run errands, you're pretty much stuck at work. I am going to try to get over it though and ride to work the next three days, at least to keep up with T, cause let me tell you, seeing someone else getting somewhere with a fitness plan while you sit on your derriere complaining is not going to get you in shape.

That's my rant for today!

Random Question

How is it possible to wake up weighing more than you did the night before...that's just messed up!

Fourth of July Weekend

Well, the weekend started off great. Had dinner with the fantastic crew on Friday night. Had to work on Saturday morning, and Saturday night (for those of you that don't know, I have two jobs, might currently be looking for a third :-(...), but after the second job I got to go to the Improv and watch a fan-freaking-tastic comedy show with Ali Sidiq and Sydney Castillo. I cleaned my house Sunday, Monday went and saw Transformers 3, which was good, but a tad bit too long in my opinion. And so we come to Tuesday....

See the thing is that I am a competitor, and, like I've said many times before, the easiest ways to get me to do something are A) tell me I can't do it, or B) shame me into doing it. So, Tuesday, as I was saying. I got up to do some errands, since I know V was going to be busy for a couple of hours, I thought I'd get the most mundane errands out of the way. I ended up meeting up with ME1 at HP Books so that she could sell some books and we ended up hanging out for a while. She showed off her looser pants, and then very meticulously kept track of her points (she is currently on Weight Watchers), and I felt like a slacker. SO, when I got home I got V to go with me to the trails, where I rode from the entrance on University to the endpoint on Bryant Irvin and back. In a heat index of 104. My water was already hot halfway through. Needless to say almost to the end of my ride I was dehydrated, and I was developing a migraine, I had to stop for a bit and cool off before finishing the ride. It took about an hour, so not my best time. The distance was 8.96 miles, so longer than my ride to work. Still, I got up off my lazy ass and did it, which should count for something. :-D

Also, I've given up the calorie counting, since it was too time consuming and I'm eating more than I should "normally" eat anyways. I tried eating the recommended 2000 calories a day, which amounted to a bowl of cereal and a hot pocket, and I was constantly hungry. So, no restricted eating for me. V tried to make me feel better by saying I have a high metabolism. LOL.

Anyways, any advice is welcome.

No stats for today or this weekend...it was a HOLIDAY.
Cheers!!
